Interview with Brendan "BS" Sheehey
May 14, 2004
Left: Brendan "BS" Sheehey and Recreational Sports Director Paul Lee
No one is really sure exactly when Brendan "BS" Sheehey played for the team. As far as anyone can tell, he was just always there. As a five year mainstay, Sheehey is a link between the earliest roots of the program and today's team. He was also a constant of UCSB's intramural hockey program, organizing officials and running the league from Roberston Gymnasium as a student manager. As a goalie, he was one of a kind. Having been "born in Rob Gym" BS was unique to the program in so many ways. Even though he played during much of his career behind the Gauchos' stellar goaltender Andrew Sperry, BS nonetheless stood out in half a decade's worth of backstopping. It seems impossible to have so many stories and legends come from one man, but the alumni still maintain that it's all true. Here, then, is the interview. Read at your own risk.... (Click here to move on to the interview)
Keep checking back with us in the upcoming months as we visit with some of the most famous (and infamous) of our alumni. To read up on past interviews (Steve Underhill, James Wagner and Dave Wagner) visit the Alumni Section. Then reminisce about the good ol' times at our Message Board.

May's RecCen II Construction Site Pictures

May's an exciting month for the Gauchos: the 4th Annual Hockey Night in Santa Barbara, the "Spring Showdown by the Sands" to be held on May 22, spring weather and midterms done (well, almost). Not to be outdone by these other things, the RecCen II keeps dominating UCSB's horizon both physically and mentally. The structure has taken on shape, with every day bringing some more definition. The walls are finally going up, with the result being a curiously yellow building behind the swimming pool that will stay that way until the final coats of paint are added in the Fall. Each part of the site has undergone some drastic makeovers: the MAC is absolutely massive now that the skeletal structure has been fleshed out; the office suites are coming along well; the weight room's peaked roof and glass wall are taking shape. The project will begin its electrical wiring phase very soon, and all the details of the rink are being looked over. It's an exciting time to be part of UCSB Hockey!
